FINDING VALUE PICKS

by
Randy Steinman

Value picks are lesser-priced players in daily fantasy hockey who offer good potential point production. Selecting value picks offers the daily fantasy hockey player a savings in salary, allowing for the selection of star or superstar players.

CHECK NHL LINE COMBINATIONS

You can often find a less-expensive member on a team's top line. As somewhat of a 'ride-along' that player will probably benefit when the line scores.

You"ll find line combinations at Left Wing Lock.

Also, at NHL.com, the Headlines section on the home page lists "Projected lineups, goalies for today". The line combos for each team playing that day are listed.

WHO'S HOT?

Finding an inexpensive player who is on a hot streak makes a great value pick.

One way to find these type of picks is by using NHL.com. Click on Schedule from the top menu. This will take you to the schedule of games for the day. Click on the Preview for each game. In the Game Preview Section you will find "Players to Watch- Last 5 Games". It will display leaders for the two teams over the last five games in Points, Goals, Assists and +/-. There are often lesser-priced (value) players listed who have been productive over the last five games.

DAILY FANTASY SITES

Many fantasy sports sites offer daily predictions and picks.

At Rotowire.com value picks are often listed in the daily fantasy hockey articles.

RECENT CALL-UPS

Check "Player Movement" news. Call-ups from the American League, or late season college additions, could easily continue producing in the NHL- especially in their first couple of games.
